NetSupport Manager offers heightened security protections in its remote control tools
With more than seven million users worldwide, NetSupport Manager benefits from nearly 35 years’ worth of research, development and expertise as the team brings you more features than ever before to keep your organisation’s network secure. The team behind NetSupport’s solutions are continuously working to ensure that your organisation’s devices and sensitive data remain protected and have introduced several key measures to further protect your network from “bad actors”.
This assurance of security has been extended further as NetSupport Manager has been bolstered with additional measures to ensure secure data management and to maintain device integrity. These crucial safety configurations include:
NetSupport Gateway
The Gateway is locally installed on your network, and it provides “keys” which serve as encrypted passcodes. These must match in order for connections between machines to be permitted. The gateway also logs all activity, making it easier to trace which computers were attempting to connect.
Security Keys
These enable Control users to connect only if they have the same security key as the Client. It can be set as your serial number, unique to your organization, or as a secure passcode, depending on your preferences.
User acknowledgement
This requires the client to explicitly accept the request before a connection to a control can be made, preventing a connection from being “forced” by unfamiliar devices.

The vast majority of NetSupport users will not encounter problems linked to safety and security, particularly with the further measures introduced. However, risks posed by “bad actors” can largely be mitigated by extra precautions taken by the end user. Alongside these enhanced security offerings, NetSupport has previously shared some advice as to the steps users can take. These are not limited to:
- Remaining aware of any trends relating to common phishing scams, and alerting members of your organisation if there are any threats they could be vulnerable to.
- Making sure your devices remain continuously up to date with any software patches that may be released, as many such updates are built in response to live threats.
- Ensuring that reputable antivirus and anti-malware solutions are in place to guard against unwanted attacks. Many of these can help to guard against hackers, acting as an extra line of defence for your network. Security software solutions also often have advanced tools which can alert you to potential threats and support with incident response.
- Considering whether there are any unused features or settings which could be implemented within your organisation’s network to secure access further. For detailed explanations of the features available in NetSupport Manager, check this document created by the NetSupport team.
- Taking advantage of the health checks offered by the NetSupport support team which allow you to review your current settings and discuss ways you can continue to protect your users and devices.
